UmClip for macOS · 0.9.0 beta

Record your screen.
Actually explain it.

UmClip combines screen recording, live presentation tools and non-destructive editing, so you can explain something clearly without constantly stopping and restarting.

  • macOS only
  • Local-first

Why UmClip

More than a screen recorder.

Most tools capture what happened on your screen. UmClip is built around the moments where you need to point, draw, switch and fix while you talk.

  1. 1Record
  2. 2Explain
  3. 3Fix
  4. 4Export
  • Present while you record

Draw on the screen, open a whiteboard, keep your camera on, read from a teleprompter, and use your hand as a pointer. All while the recording runs.

    • Hand controls
  • Switch without stopping

Move between windows or displays mid-recording. Your webcam and mic keep going, audio stays in sync, and annotations stay attached to the source they were drawn on.

    • Window or display
    • Webcam continues
    • Mic continues
    • Source-aware annotations
  • Fix mistakes without starting over

Flubbed a sentence? Retake just that section. UmClip keeps the original and the retake so you can decide later. Editing is non-destructive.

    • Retake sections
    • Keep original
    • Keep retake
    • Review later
  • Clean it up afterward

Pause and cleanup suggestions, chapters and captions, zoom and cursor effects, audio automation and system-audio ducking help the final cut land.

Hand controls

Use your hand as a pointer.

Turn on hand controls and your webcam becomes an input. Point to move a pointer across the screen. Pinch to draw. Make a fist to undo the last stroke.

Hand tracking runs locally on your Mac. It works best with steady lighting and a clear view of your hand.

  • Point

    moves the pointer

  • Pinch

    draws

  • Fist

    undoes the last stroke

Live source switching

Change what you’re showing.
Keep recording.

Jump from an app to a browser to a whiteboard and back without stopping. Your camera, mic and presentation layer stay continuous, and the audio stays in sync.

Retakes

Mess up?
Retake the section.

Mark the spot, say it again, keep going. UmClip keeps the original and every retake side by side so you can pick the best one when you review. Nothing is thrown away until you export.

  • No need to restart the whole recording
  • Original and retakes stay available
  • Decide now or review later
  • Non-destructive from start to finish

Local-first

Your recording stays on your Mac.

UmClip records and processes on your Mac. Screen capture, webcam recording and hand tracking all run locally, and UmClip does not currently upload your recordings to a cloud service.

Audio

Your audio isn't an afterthought.

See your mic and system audio as waveforms on the timeline. Automate volume where it matters, and let system audio duck under your voice automatically.
